$53-million school bond called for in May 2008
The Franklin County Board of Commissioners agreed to put a $53- million school bond before voters during the May 2008 primary.
And following that decision, the Board of Education made a commitment to use the Franklinton High School as a middle school once it uses the bond money to build a replacement high school.

Enrollment on the rise
The drains worked at Laurel Mill. The new cafeteria was a big hit at Bunn High, and the largest senior class ever at Louisburg High has taken a seat.
Construction projects from the $30-million bond package were on target, and new principals at Bunn Middle and Bunn High reported great days, as did every other top educator in the 12 of 13 schools in the system that started a traditional calendar Monday.

FRMC files appeal
Franklin Regional Medical Center filed its appeal of a state decision that denies its move to Youngsville.
In July, the state Division of Facility Services denied the hospital’s attempt to relocate to U.S. Highway 1 and N.C. Highway 96 stating that the hospital did not show how it would meet the needs of the elderly, poor and underserved in its new location.

Barrick’s attorney wants Currin removed from case
An attorney for a deputy charged with killing another deputy wants the county’s prosecutor removed from the case alleging impropriety.
Ben Barrick was indicted last spring on charges that he was responsible for the May 2004 helicopter crash that killed Deputy Ted Horton.

Warriors win over Granville
STEM -- Y-Monh Eban scored three goals and added an assist as Louisburg High defeated first-year program Granville Central by a 6-4 margin Monday evening on the GC campus.
Louisburg, coached by Brent Cardwell, is now 1-0-1 on the season. The Warriors opened last week with a tie against Northern Vance.

Mrs. Zealand was a graduate of Louisburg College and Woman’s College (now UNCG). She taught for many years in the Franklin County School system before becoming a librarian with Louisburg College. Mrs. Zealand stayed in touch with many of her former students and enjoyed visiting with them.
