Breaking News: School board hires new superintendent

A former assistant principal at Franklinton High School will be returning to the school district as superintendent.
Dr. Pascal T. Mubenga was hired Monday afternoon by the Franklin County Board of Education for the district's top job.
Dr. Mubenga was assistant principal at Franklinton High from 2005 to 2007.
Since then he served as principal of Jones (County) Middle School from 2007 to 2008 and Jones Senior High School from 2008 to 2011.

APEX - Furman Franklin Colbert, 70, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2015. Memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, at Thomas Funeral Home Chapel, 401 N. Ennis Street, Fuquay-Varina. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m., two hours prior to the service.

LOUISBURG - Gladys Finch Cooke, 84, of Ingleside, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 2015 at Pine Ridge Health and Rehabilitation in Thomasville. Funeral services were held Monday morning, Aug. 17, in the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery.
