AMIE R. AVERY
RALEIGH - Amie R. Avery, 101, died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today (Saturday, March 7) at First Congregational Church, with visitation from 12 to 1 p.m. Saturday prior to the service. Interment will be in Carolina Biblical Gardens, Garner.

She was born in Wadesboro, daughter of the late Alexander W. Ratliff and Madgalene Leake. She had the responsibility of taking care of 10 siblings after the death of her mother. She served in many capacities at First Congregational Church and was active in community activities.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Avery, six brothers and three sisters.

Surviving: daughters, Carridene Narron, Geraldine C. Lee (Paul) and Lossie Davis (Richmond) of Raleigh; sister, Katherine Ratliff of Youngsville; six grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
