MATTILLE H. WHITAKER
FRANKLINTON — Mattille Hicks Whitaker, 85, died Monday, May 25, 2009 at Rex Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today (Saturday, May 30) at Franklinton United Methodist Church, officiated by the Rev. Daniel Jenks. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Franklinton.

She was a native of Franklinton and was one of 12 children of the late Donald Cade and Mattille Irwin Hicks. In her career with the Franklinton City School System, she taught English and French, and was the librarian for many years.

Surviving: daughter, Janice W. O’Neal (Jesse) of Raleigh; sons, Dudley Whitaker of Columbia, Md., and Ben Whitaker (Cathy) of Cary; sisters, Virginia Smith of Murfreesboro and Bettie Pate (Ken) of Ahoskie; brothers, John Hicks of Murfreesboro and Joe Hicks (Connie) of Greenville; and five grandchildren.

Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Franklinton United Methodist Church, 109 North Main Street, Franklinton, NC 27525.
