RICKEY E. LOCKHART
BUNN, N.C. – Rickey E. Lockhart, 44, died Saturday, July 22, 2006 at his home in Bunn, N.C. after a prolonged illness. Rickey was born July 11, 1962 in Columbus, Ohio. The family relocated to Ashland, Kentucky, where his parents Thurman (1934-2001) and Mildred Lockhart raised Rickey and his six brothers and sisters.

Rickey began his career in the construction trades in Florida—from framing to welding to operating heavy equipment—and moved up the ranks to participate in major civil engineering projects including the completion of the first phase of Interstate I-540, the main commuter artery connecting I-40 and the Research Triangle Park, N.C. to the U.S. Route 1 corridor, fueling the rapidly-expanding North Raleigh and Wake Forest areas. More recently, Rickey established L&S Construction (LLP), a privately-held company that performed custom renovations of distressed real estate.

An avid NASCAR fan, Rickey enjoyed his favorite pastime with son Rickey, 14, both staunch supporters of this truly Southern spectacle, born and bred on the mountain roads of Kentucky and the Carolinas.

Rickey is survived by his loving wife, Audrey, and cherished son, Rickey Lockhart II; his mother Mildred and her husband Joe Stanley; sisters Rose, Alice, Helen, and Barbara; and brothers Joseph and Thurman Jr. and their extended families. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.brownwynne.com

Final respects can be made Friday, July 28 from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 East Millbrook Road, Raleigh, N.C. For more information or directions to the Brown-Wynne Home, please call 919.876.6900.

A memorial mass with Father Clifford presiding will be held on Friday, July 28 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church (919.865.5700), 5801 Falls of Neuse Road in Raleigh, N.C. Internment will follow at the Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh.
