DR. CHARLES A. HORTON
ZEBULON - Dr. Charles Allison Horton, 81, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2009. Interment at the Horton Cemetery in Zebulon will be private.

 Born in Zebulon, he was the son of the late Marion Earl and Goldie Jeffreys Horton. He graduated from Wake Forest University with a B.A. in English and music, received a master’s degree from Westminster Choir College in choral conducting and organ, and also earned a second master’s degree and Ph.D. in musicology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

He was arts and book editor for The Chapel Hill Newspaper for two decades, and a contributor of reviews to Dance Magazine.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Roderick Marion Horton and Needham Earl Horton; and one sister, Dorothy Horton Ellington.

Surviving: former wife, Susan Burnett Horton; daughter, Marian Dickerson; son, Allison Earl Horton; and three grandchildren.
