VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.- Margaret Hodges Kitchin Gilliam, 87, died Friday, Nov. 13, 2009. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, at Galilee Episcopal Church, Virginia Beach.
A native of Scotland Neck, she was born the daughter of William Hugh and Hattie Leggett Kitchin. She was co-manager/owner of The Halifax Hotel for 35 years.
Surviving: husband, Charles Lamb Gilliam of Franklinton, N.C. and Virginia Beach; children, Harriet G. Vance of Roanoke, Va., Margaret G. Philpott of Durango, Colo., and Charles Lamb Gilliam Jr. of Shutesbury, Mass.; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, William Hugh Kitchin Jr. and James Leggett Kitchin, both of Virginia Beach.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Galilee Episcopal Church, 3928 Pacific Avenue, Virginia Beach, Va. 23451
