RUBY J. ALLEN
OXFORD - Mrs. Ruby Jones Allen, 98, died Wednesday, July 28, 2010. Funeral service will be conducted Sunday, Aug.  1, at 3 p.m. at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Ray A. Allsberry, assisted by the Revs. Mack Timberlake Sr., Lennis Thorpe, Joel Norwood and George Bullock. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

A Granville County native, she was the daughter of the late John and Fannie Yarborough Jones. She was a member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she served as president of the Senior Missionaries, Sunday School teacher, Director of the Young Adult Dept., and a member of the Senior Choir. She worked at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church as a custodian for many years and also worked for an orphanage as a resident counselor and did domestic work.

Ruby was the step- mother of six children, five of whom preceded her in death; she was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Surviving: daughter, Lillie A. Moss of Oxford; sister, Eloise Jones Alston of Raleigh; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Allen will lie in state Saturday, July 31, from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A visitation is planned 30 minutes prior to the service.

Allen’s Home of Funerals is assisting the Allen family.
