FRED J. MATT
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH - Fred J. Matt, 62, died Tuesday, March 22, 2011. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today (Saturday, March 26) at St. Marks Cathedral in Wilmington.

He was born in Chicago, Ill., to James and Tina Matt. He graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill and pursued business interests, including operating East Carolina Trucks, General Gear & Axle and Smith Chevrolet Jeep, and later turned to commercial real estate development.

Surviving: wife, Sharon Matt; daughter, Natasha of Wrightsville Beach; mother, Tina Matt of Raleigh; daughters, Mandi Matt Chappell (Brian), Meagan Matt Maddox (Clint), all of Raleigh, Melissa Matt Mallery (Kevin) of Youngsville; brother, Tina Matt (Myra) of Wilmington; sister, Maureen Matt Long (Scott) of Raleigh; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, James G. Matt.
