REV. JAMES MACKENZIE
ASHEBORO - The Rev. James MacKenzie, 86, died at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro on Wednesday, May 18, 2011. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 22, at Cross Road Baptist Church (1566 Old Cox Road, Asheboro). Burial will be at 4:30 p.m. at Olivia Presbyterian Church (3363 Olivia Road, Olivia).

He was born in Detroit, Mich. to Ida Conklin and James MacKenzie. He served during World War II, where he earned the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. His ministry included serving Olivia, Barbecue, Elise and Horseshoe Presbyterian churches.

Surviving: children, Janet MacKenzie (Lee) Limer of Youngsville; Kayly Nall (David) of Asheboro, Christy Scheid (Jon) of Raleigh, and Kenneth MacKenzie (Stacie) of Asheboro;  and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie.

Relatives and friends are welcome at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro, from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 21.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Youth Missions, Cross Road Baptist Church, 1566 Old Cox Road, Asheboro, NC 27205.
