JAMES EARL MCGHEE
GASTONIA, NC - James Earl McGhee, 69, passed away on Friday, September 16, 2011 at Carolina’s Medical Center in Charlotte.

He was born September 12, 1942 in Franklin County, North Carolina, and was the son of the late Virginia Vaughan McGhee and Howard Lee McGhee.

James retired from Western Auto Supply Co. with 31 years of service and SAIA Motor Freight with 12 years of service.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Evelyn Everette McGhee, son and daughter-in-law, James Marvin McGhee and wife Jennifer of Columbia, S.C.; sisters and brothers, Betty McGhee May and husband Otha of Franklinton, N.C., Howard McGhee, Jr. and wife Carol of Graham, N.C., Dorothy McGhee Burger and husband Danny of Wake Forest, N.C., George McGhee and wife Mary Pat of Franklinton, N.C. Stella Preddy and husband Lawrence of Raleigh, N.C.; aunt, Elaine Smith of Franklinton, N.C.; numerous nieces and nephews.

James was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Gastonia, N.C. where he served as a Deacon, on various church committees and Sunday School teacher with Sunday School perfect attendance for 47 years.

The family received friends from 6:30 PM until 8:30 PM Sunday, September 18, at McLean Funeral Directors, 700 South New Hope Rd., Gastonia, N.C.

Funeral service was at Calvary Baptist Church, 3001 South York Road, Monday, September 19, 2011, at 4 PM with Reverend Bruce Pittman and Reverend Jeff Taylor officiating.

Interment was Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at 1 PM in Fairview Cemetery, Franklinton, N.C., with Reverend Eddie Clement officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Calvary Baptist Church Educational Scholarship Fund, 3001 South York Road Gastonia, N.C. 28052 or BI & Sara Epting Scholarship Fund, North Greenville University, P.O. Box 1892, Tigerville, S.C. 29688
