PERCY W. GILLIAM
June 18, 1918 – October 24, 2011
LOUISBURG - Percy Wilson Gilliam, 93, of Louisburg, died peacefully Monday morning at his home.

  He was born in Franklin County on June 18, 1918 to George (Spence) and Mary (Libbie) Gilliam.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Minnie Lou Dickerson Gilliam;  daughter, Becky Gilliam Ayscue; brother, Leslie Gilliam; sisters, Odell Gilliam, Rodelia G. Burnette, and Christine G. Evans.

He married Minnie Lou Dickerson in 1938 and they moved to Virginia Beach, VA in 1940, where he became a local building contractor.  They moved back to Franklin County in 1966 where he continued his profession.  He lived in Franklin County until his death.  He was a wonderful father, grandfather, friend, fellow Christian, and avid Ridgeway Opry House fan.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Lancaster Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 12:30-2 p.m. Thursday before the funeral and other times at the home.

Mr. Gilliam is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Betty G. and Rickey Raynor of Louisburg, Connie G. and Gary Faulkner of Youngsville; sons, and daughters-in-law, Roland and Nancy Gilliam, Wilson and Janice Gilliam, Sr., all of Carthage; Donny Gilliam and special friend Kaye Shearin, Tim and Janice Gilliam, all of Louisburg; son-in-law, Charles O. Ayscue of Henderson; 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; brothers, Ashley Gilliam of Norfolk, VA and Claiborne Gilliam of Louisburg; special caregiver, Jessie Baynard.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Amedisys Hospice Services, 3320 US 1 Hwy., Suite B, Franklinton, NC 27525.
