MARY ANN WALKER PERSON
February 21, 1927- February 5, 2012
LOUISBURG, NC - Mary Ann Person, 84, of Louisburg, NC passed away late Sunday, February 5, 2012.  She was born on February 21, 1927 in Burlington, NC to the late Harry Bradley Walker and Fannie Sue Patilla Walker. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew Maurice Person, Jr.  Surviving are: son, Matt Person, of Raleigh; son, Brad Person and wife Bonnie, of Louisburg; granddaughter, Ashley Bailey and husband Chris, of Raleigh; granddaughter, Jessica Person of Louisburg; two nieces, Meg Chapin and Emily Beck; and two nephews, Chuck Revelle and Henry Revelle.

Mary Ann graduated as Valedictorian from Burlington High School in 1943.  She graduated from University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1947 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology.  She was elected one of the “Eight Outstanding Seniors” and was editor of the “Pine Needles” college annual.  Mary Ann was a case worker for Mecklenburg County and Wake County, and served as Services Supervisor for Franklin County Department of Social Services.

Mary Ann was a devoted and active member of Louisburg United Methodist Church.  She served as President of the Women’s Society of Christian Services, Chairman of the Commission on Membership and Evangelism, Official Board Secretary, Chairman of the Finance Committee, and Prayer Committee Chairperson.  Mary Ann also was a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Outreach Committee, Stephen Ministries, and Mental Retardation Committee.  She helped organize the Yolanda Jones Center in 1973 and the “Person-Williamson Family Prayer Room.”  In 2004, Mary Ann was presented as an Honorary Member of the Administrative Council at Louisburg United Methodist Church.

Mary Ann was a supportive and instrumental member of the Louisburg community.  She was President of the Louisburg High School Parent Teacher Association, contributed to the organization of Care and Share, Inc., served on the Franklin Memorial Hospital Guild, The Person Place Preservation Society, and numerous other volunteer organizations throughout the area.

Funeral services will be held at Louisburg United Methodist Church at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, February 8, 2012, followed by burial at Oakwood Cemetery in Louisburg. Her family will receive friends at the cemetery, following services.

Upon Mary Ann’s wishes, memorial contributions may be made to Louisburg United Methodist Church, PO Box 667, Louisburg, NC 27549, in lieu of flowers.
