JEAN T. HASTY
OCEAN ISLE BEACH - Jean Thrower Hasty, 84, of Ocean Isle Beach died Thursday, February 28, 2013. She was born to the late William and Pearl Thrower on July 17, 1928 in Laurinburg, NC. Jean received a degree in Business Administration from UNC-Greensboro in 1948. She married the late Lanier Cottingham “L.C.” Hasty in 1950 and lived in Louisburg, NC before relocating to Ocean Isle Beach in 2000. Jean was a high school teacher in business administration and worked at Social Services in Franklin County. After her retirement, she continued to be active in the community. She founded the Care and Share, an ongoing program in Louisburg that continues to serve the poor. In addition, she volunteered as a tutor at both Louisburg Elementary and Union Elementary in Shallotte for more than 10 years. Jean received numerous awards for more than 25 years of various community services. She was an active member of Camp United Methodist Church. She loved bridge card games, poker and golf, for which she won tournaments.

Jean is survived by three daughters: Susan C. Hasty of Raleigh, Cathy Hasty of Charlotte and Lanier Ayscue of Asheville and four grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Camp United Methodist Church or Transylvania Regional Hospital Hospice in Brevard, NC. The family received visitors in the parlor of Heaton Hall at Myers Park Baptist Church, 1900 Queens Road at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2013. On April 28, 2013, a memorial service will be held at Camp United Methodist Church in Shallotte at 1:30 p.m., followed by a reception at Brick Landing Club House at Ocean Isle Beach, NC.
