FRED B. BRIGGS
YOUNGSVILLE - Fred Basil “Papa” Briggs, 85, died Thursday, April 13, 2006 in his home. Funeral services were conducted Monday, April 17, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Michael Bass officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Born in Vance County, he was the son of the late Jim and Beulah Briggs.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Navy. He retired from the NC Department of Corrections, opened and operated Briggs Flea Market and Hubcaps in Wake Forest for eight years, and helped in opening Papa’s Place in Youngsville.

Surviving: his wife, Faye; daughters, Shannon Janosko (John) and Teresa Johnson (Zeek), all of Youngsville; brother, Clarence Briggs of Wake Forest; sisters, Joyce Weathers and Virginia Bradsher, both of Henderson; four grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one great-grandson; brothers, Melvin, Pete, Utah and Bobbie Briggs; and sisters, Edna Henley, Roberta White and Hortense Briggs.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wake County, 1300 St. Mary’s Street, 4th Floor, Raleigh, NC 27605.
