TERESA MARIE COWARD
ZEBULON - Teresa Marie Coward, 61, of  8729 NC Hwy. 39 South, passed away peacefully at Wake Med, Cary, surrounded by her family on June 29, 2013. Teresa was born on January 30, 1952 in Kings County, Brooklyn, NY to the late Charles W. Brown and Catherine Rita Murtha Brown.  She worked in Medical Administration as a Billing Clerk with Wake Radiology, retiring with over 30 years of service. She valiantly fought a 4 and a half year battle with ovarian cancer with a courage that was unmatched.

Known and loved by many, she had a reputation for being friendly, kind, and loving to all that she came into contact with, and her love of baking meant that she was never empty-handed. Her baking goodies have warmed the hearts and filled the stomachs of many family members, friends, and strangers alike. Throughout her lifetime she positively impacted the lives of everyone she met as an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Louisburg, NC, and residing in the Pilot Community in southern Franklin County. She was an especially loving mother, and was active in her children’s lives, leaving her mark on their friends and their friends’ families. She was a member of the Theta Lamba Chapter in Bunn, NC of Beta Sigma Phi sorority. Along with her husband, Stuart, she enjoyed seeing the United States countryside through family vacations. Lastly, her wishes were that in death she would “go to college” at Duke University as a cadaver for medical research - another example of her unending selflessness.

Family Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545 for a time of sharing and visiting with the Coward family.

Surviving: Her husband, Stuart D. Coward IV; her son, Stuart D. Coward V. (Quint) and his wife Brandy Barrett Coward of Raleigh; her daughter, Carlie B. Coward of Greenville, NC; her sisters, Margie M. Pergola and BettyAnn M. Hart, both of Phoenix, Az; and a niece, Donna,Pergola.

In addition to her parents, Teresa was preceded in death by her stepmother, Jean Piscatelli Brown.

The family has requested that if flowers are given in her memory, that they be plants that can be planted to continue growing in her memory, or contributions to be made to Teresa’s Troop of the Gail Parkins Memorial Ovarian Cancer Awareness Walk and 5K (www.ovarianawareness.org <http://www.ovarianawareness.org/> ). Her team can be found by hovering over the “Teams” link in the header and clicking “2013 Team List.”

Teresa’s family would like to extend a thank you to Waverly Hematology and Oncology of Cary, specifically Dr. Mark Graham and his compassionate and caring staff.

Condolences to the family may be sent to poolefuneral.com under Obituaries.
