FRANKLINTON —Alice Bragg Bigham, 94, died Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Louisburg Nursing Center. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, July 6, at Fairview Cemetery.
Born in Granville County, she was the daughter of the late Bayard Lamar Bragg and Norma Moore Bragg. She was the widow of Isaac Leroy Bigham, Jr.
She graduated from Wilton High School, East Carolina University with an AB degree in elementary education, and the University of North Carolina with a Master’s degree in elementary education and a minor in sociology. She continued post graduate studies at UNC, NCSU and Duke University.
Alice taught in the public school system for 39 years. After retirement, she later tutored students in her home for 15 years.
She was an active member of Franklinton United Methodist Church. Alice was a life member of the National Education Association, North Carolina Education Association, and served as a State Delegate in Portland, Seattle, and Minneapolis. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international society for key women educators.
Surviving: sons, Lamar Bragg Bigham of Apex and Isaac “Ike” Leroy Bigham III (Alisha) of Louisburg; brother, Medicus E. Bragg (Louise) of Pocomoke; and two granddaughters.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brothers, James R. Bragg and B.L Bragg, Jr., and a dear companion and friend, Martin Liles.
Friends are invited to visit from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 5, at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, Franklinton Chapel, 504 E. Mason Street.
