LOUISBURG - Susan Star Cardwell Abbott, 59, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013. Funeral service were held Sunday, Oct. 13, in the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home in Louisburg, www.stricklandfuneralhome.net.

She was the daughter of Ernest Ray and Faye Hudson Cardwell of Louisburg.

Surviving: husband, Jerry Wayne Abbott;  daughter, Milli Hendrickson (Dwayne), and one granddaughter of Louisburg; stepchildren, Angela Dawn Castro (Pedro), and five step-grandchildren of Youngsville; and Jeffrey Wayne Abbott (Valarie) of Durham; sisters, Penny Raye Cardwell Strickland (Al) of Youngsville and Elaine Hudson Cardwell Duke of Louisburg; brother, Brent Cardwell (Parrish) of Fuquay-Varina; four nieces; and many aunts and uncles. 

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, C. B. Hudson, Sr. and Mollie Bennett Hudson, and her paternal grandparents, Thomas McGuire and Ethel McGuire.  She was also the great-granddaughter of the late Charlie and Mamie Wright Hudson, as well as Peter Mallette and Florence Catlette Bennett. 

She was a 1972 graduate of Louisburg High School.  She also attended Louisburg College where she studied music under the direction of Sarah Foster. She starred in many productions under the direction of Charley John Smith at Louisburg College and under the direction of Mark Taylor, Dwight Berry, Walter Hurst, Larry Williams, Betty Willis, and Susan King at Lakeland Cultural Arts Center.  For many years, she also served as choir director at Corinth Baptist Church.

Flowers accepted or memorial gifts may be given to Norris Theatre at Louisburg College.
