HELEN S. BENTON
July 21, 1926 – April 14, 2014

LOUISBURG – Helen Spruill Benton, 87, of Louisburg, died Monday afternoon.

Helen was a daughter of the late Preston and Mattie Hardison Spruill. She was preceded in death by her brother, Alston Spruill. Helen graduated from Oriental High School and East Carolina University with a B.A. and a Masters degree in education. She was a member of Louisburg United Methodist Church since 1959 and a Louisburg College Concert Series patron since 1959.

Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Louisburg United Methodist Church with Rev. Madison Hankal officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the funeral in the fellowship hall.

Helen is survived by her husband of 63 years, Wayne D. Benton; son, Warren Benton and friend, Heidi Ruchti of Charlotte; sisters and brother-in-law, Norma Smith; Dorothy and Raymond Tingle, all of Oriental; granddaughter, Jordan Ruchti of Charlotte; nieces and nephews, Jim Smith, Wanda Forrest, Cathy Dunbar, Al Spruill, Julia Tingle, Linda Burton, and Raymond Tingle, Mike Bottoms, and Gwen Messer ,with special thanks to Julia and Linda for their help during the last half year..

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Louisburg United Methodist Church, Building Fund, P.O. Box 667, Louisburg, NC 27549.
