VIOLA G. CHAMPION

YOUNGSVILLE - Viola Gupton Champion, "Big Mama," of Youngsville, died Sunday, January 18, 2015, at Wake Medical Center. Born July 29, 1934 to the late Ezra and Lila Gilliam Gupton. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Elsie and Blanche, and her longtime companion, Lonnie Clay. A member of Wood Baptist Church and attended Hopkins Baptist Church in Zebulon. Mrs. Champion retired from Burlington Industries. She was an amazing mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who had a very caring heart and loved gathering with her family at Christmas. She had a great sense of humor and loved her church family, lighthouses and to cook chocolate pies and fudge.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Lancaster Funeral and Cremation Services Chapel with the Rev. Glen Brock officiating. Entombment will follow in Lancaster Memorial Park Mausoleum.

She is survived by her sons, Reginald E. Champion (Debbie) and Stuart Champion (Patsy) of Wake Forest; her daughter, Cindy Jobe (Danny) of Youngsville; her grandchildren, Ashley, Kaitlin, Robbie, Lisa Caverly (David), Mandy Parker (Jeff); her great-grandchildren, Tyler, Hunter, Brianna, Hayden, Camden and Ady Grace; her brother, Archie Lee Gupton of Butner; and her stepmother, Gertie Lou Gupton.

The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Lancaster Funeral and Cremation Services, 804 N. Bickett Boulevard, Louisburg, NC
