ZEBULON - .Charles H. Saunders, 76, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2015.

Funeral services will be Monday, August 24, 2015 at Spring Hope Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 AM, with interment following at Spring Hope Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Saunders proudly served our country for six years with one of those in Vietnam with the 82nd Airborne, and Special Forces Green Beret. He received two purple hearts and a distinguished cross.

Mr. Saunders worked with Norfolk - Southern Railroad for thirty years, accident free.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Robena Brantley Saunders; brothers, Randolph and Johnny Saunders; and a great-nephew, Douglas Saunders.

Mr. Saunders leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Jill Dew Saunders of the home; one daughter, Kaja S. Ackerman of the home; sister, Phyllis S. Smith of Greenville; brothers, Eugene D. Saunders of Georgia, Jerry M. Saunders (Carolyn) of Spring Hope, Fred Allen Saunders (Brenda) of Spring Hope; and a granddaughter, Caitlin Ackerman.

The family will receive friends Sunday, August 23, 2015 at the funeral home 6 - 8 PM and other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America, 7 Mill Brook Rd., Wilton, NH 03086 or Veterans of Foreign Wars, www.vfw.org/contribute, or 252-446-7532.
