R. LAVERNE GRIFFIN

LOUISBURG - Richard LaVerne Griffin, 71, of Louisburg passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at his home. Born on November 3, 1944 to the late Bennie Melville and Edith Joyner Griffin. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Melville Griffin, Jr. LaVerne loved his family and friends dearly and was a former pastor of Margarettsville Baptist Church in Margarettsville, NC, as well as a building contractor and the owner of The Cactus Barn in Centerville.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Lancaster Funeral and Cremation Services, 804 N. Bickett Boulevard, Louisburg, where his funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Jason Whitehurst and Rev. Jane Lyon officiating. Burial will follow in Centerville Baptist Church Cemetery.

LaVerne is survived by his wife, Jane S. Griffin; his Goddaughters, Tonya Sconyers and Natalie Smiley; his nieces and nephews, Melissa Samuels, William Smiley, Bobby Smiley, Teresa Horkey, Anthony Kent Griffin, Andy Griffin and Randy Griffin; his aunt, Lois Whitley; a special caregiver; Bobbie Murphy; a special friend, Shirley Dupree; and many cousins and friends.

Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Centerville Baptist Church, 2370 Leonard Road, Louisburg, NC 27549.
