JOHN ANDERSON HICKS

FRANKLINTON - John Anderson Hicks, 84, died November 7, 2015, in Carrollton, TX. He was born January 21, 1931 to the late Donald Cade and Mattille Irwin Magee Hicks of Franklinton. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his siblings, Robert U. Hicks, Leah Haskins, Donald C. Hicks, Jr., Joseph E.M. Hicks, Mattille Whitaker, Virginia Smith, Thomas W. Hicks, Rebecca T. Hicks, Richard H. Hicks and Helen Burleson; his first wife, Barbara D. Hicks, and son Christopher A. Hicks; and his second wife, Harriet H. Hicks.

John grew up in Franklinton, where he graduated from Franklinton High School in 1949. Shortly after graduation he enlisted in the Air Force and served tours of duty in both Japan and Korea. Upon his return to civilian life, John worked for the National Security Agency. Among his passions were sports - especially NASCAR, driving and cars, playing cards and being a handyman. He enjoyed any social gathering with family and friends.

Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Estelle Hicks; his grandson, Nathaniel Hicks, all of Fort Worth, TX; a granddaughter, Amy Hicks of Gambrills, MD; and his sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Ken Pate of Ahoskie, NC; his stepdaughter, Harriet E. Baldwin and her husband Thomas Baldwin of Mooresville, NC ; and his stepson, Graham H. Bruce III and his wife Tanya Hall of Rocklin, CA.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Murfreesboro United Methodist Church, 313 East High St., Murfreesboro, NC, with the Reverend Monica Beacham officiating. On Sunday, December 13, 2015 at 2:00pm a memorial service will be held at Lancaster's Franklinton Chapel, 504 East Mason St., Franklinton, NC, with the Reverend Kellie Gallagher-Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the burial at the home of Dudley Whitaker.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Murfreesboro United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 392, Murfreesboro, NC 27855. Arrangements are being handled by Lancaster Funeral and Cremation Services. Online condolences may be made to www.lancasterfcs.com.
