In 1961, as a member of the Junior Sorosis of Wilmington, she won the Florence Coper Silver Cup award for an original piano composition. Growing up, she was a member of First Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. Margaret attended both Blackstone College for Girls and Salem College. One of her most cherished accomplishments was co-authoring the children's book "The Frog Pond Symphony" with her granddaughter.
