BILLY J. MOSS

HENDERSON -- Billy Joyner Moss, 80, of 715 New Bethel Church Road, Henderson, NC (in the Epsom Community) died Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at his home.

Born in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Roy Fletcher and Grace Stainback Moss.

Mr. Moss retired after thirty-three years as a tobacco buyer at R.J. Reynolds where he was known as "Blue Mold". He was also the former owner of Billy J. Moss Realty. He was a member of Union Chapel United Methodist Church and attended New Bethel Baptist Church. He graduated from Epsom High School in 1955, Campbell College in 1957, and the University of North Carolina in 1959. He served eight years in the Army National Guard. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 31, 2016 at 1:00 p.m., at New Bethel Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Jonathan Owens. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Surviving are three daughters, Louella M. Venable (Charles) of Raleigh, Joy L. Moss of Raleigh, and Anita M. Spangler (A.J.) of the home; a son, Billy Joyner "Jay" Moss II (Jo Catherine) of Raleigh; a sister, Jo Ann M. Harris of Epsom; and six grandchildren, Jeffrey Venable, Jonathan Venable, Jackson Venable, Morgan Moss, Caitlin Moss, and Abigail Spangler. He was preceded in death by a brother, Fletcher Tommy Moss.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall. All other times, they will be at the home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Charles Venable, Jeffrey Venable, Jonathan Venable, Jackson Venable, Morgan Moss, and Jay Moss.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to The Alzheimer's Association, 3739 National Drive, Suite 110, Raleigh, NC 27612, or to New Bethel Baptist Church, c/o Debra Woodlief, 1149 Massenburg Road, Henderson, NC 27537.

Arrangements are by Flowers Funeral Home.
