EMILY JOYCE BREWER JOURNIGAN
February 21, 1939 - June 25, 2017

FRANKLINTON - Emily Joyce Brewer Journigan, 78, of Franklinton, passed away while serving the Lord at her church, Perry's Chapel Baptist Church, on June 25th, 2017.

Joyce was born on February 21, 1939 to the late Johnny Forest and Evelyn Cornelia Davis Brewer. Joyce is survived by her children, daughters and sons-in-law, Michelle and Rob Stallings of Pilot; Tanya and John Pierce of Winston-Salem; son and daughter-in-law, Shawn and Brandie Journigan of Franklinton, as well as one brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Ruby Brewer of Louisburg; brother-in-law, Early Hill Journigan, Jr. of Franklinton; Joyce is survived by seven grandchildren whom she loved dearly: Emily, William and John Michael Stallings; Evelyn and Charis Pierce; and Shawn Thomas and Christian Journigan.

Joyce became a Christian early in life at White level Baptist Church and began serving God. In her early twenties, she married R. J. Journigan and they started a home on Highway 56 near Franklinton. They attended and served at Perry's Chapel Baptist Church. During her years attending at Perry's Chapel she led a Girls in Action group, taught children's Sunday School and served as church pianist. One of Joyce's passions was listening to and playing church hymns. We are grateful for a mother who showed us how to worship and serve God.

Joyce loved being a wife and mother and serving her family at home. Joyce also found time to serve and work in her community as a bookkeeper at Louisburg College and a substitute teacher in the Franklinton City Schools. In these capacities, with her humble and kind personality, she formed good friendships. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her family and serving delicious home cooked meals. She will always be remembered as a loving and kind wife, mother, Gran, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend.

Our family would like to express our sincere gratitude for the compassionate care given to our mother during her last moments.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Perry's Chapel Baptist Church, 854 Perry's Chapel Baptist Church Road, Franklinton, NC 27525. The family will receive friends 7 - 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 27th, at Strickland Funeral Home and Crematory, Louisburg, N.C. The funeral service will be held at Perry's Chapel Baptist Church on Wednesday, June 28th, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. www.stricklandfuneralhome.net.
