IRIS F. SOUTHERLAND
August 10, 1925 - July 13, 2017

LOUISBURG - Iris Frazier Southerland, 91, of Louisburg, affectionately known to many as "Little Mama" or "Ms. Ike," went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on July 13, 2017. Ms. Ike epitomized a true southern lady who was full of grace and humility. She was a model wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. While she will always be remembered for her kind, gentle, nurturing heart and her outstanding Sunday lunches, her most outstanding attributes were her strong Christian faith and her dedication to her Lord. Ms. Ike was well known for her Biblical knowledge and not only was readily able to quote scripture, she lived her life daily by following God's word.

Iris Southerland was born in Vance County on August 10, 1925 to the late Claudia Vernice Lassiter and Thomas Worth Frazier, Sr. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Charles Peter Southerland; brothers, Thomas Worth Frazier, Jr., Fred Donald Frazier, William Kirby Frazier; and sister, Jane Frazier Kittrell. She leaves to treasure her memory and legacy, her beloved daughter and caregiver Bonnie Southerland Dickerson and husband Douglas; son, Charles Donald Southerland and wife Olivia; granddaughters, Nicki Perry (Frankie), Lauren O'Sullivan (Kevin), and grandson, Charles Donald Southerland, Jr. (Mary). Little Mama also had 7 well-loved great-grandchildren, Addison Southerland Griffin, Ally O'Sullivan, Mattox O'Sullivan, Michael O'Sullivan, Kate Southerland, Tucker Southerland, and Julia Southerland. Iris is also survived by her brothers, Dr. Richard Frazier (Violet), Gene Frazier; sisters, Peggy Frazier Pegram and Polly Frazier Hobgood, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service to honor this wonderful lady with a life so well lived and respected will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, July 16, 2017 at Louisburg Baptist Church, with burial to follow beside her beloved husband at Oakwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday and Saturday July 14 and 15 at the home of Bonnie and Doug Dickerson, 624 Woodland Trail, Louisburg.

Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Louisburg Baptist Church, P.O. Box 730, Louisburg, NC 27549.

Arrangements are by Strickland Funeral Home, Louisburg, www.stricklandfuneralhome.net.
