JOSEPHINE P. ZEALAND
LOUISBURG – Mrs. Josephine Perry Zealand, 92, of Louisburg, died August 24, 2007. Born and raised in Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late Edward Crudup Perry and Lois Tucker Perry of Louisburg. Mrs. Zealand was a graduate of Louisburg College and Woman’s College (now UNCG). She taught for many years in the Franklin County School system before becoming a librarian with Louisburg College. Mrs. Zealand stayed in touch with many of her former students and enjoyed visiting with them.

Mrs. Zealand was a member of Louisburg Baptist Church and was active in writing the history of the church for its sesquicentennial celebration. She was also actively involved in the establishment of the Franklin County Library building now on Main St.

Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Monday at Louisburg Baptist Church with Dr. Reggie Rushing officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Zealand was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Eleanor Perry Alston and Sallie Perry Barnes; and one brother, Edward Crudup Perry, Jr..

Mrs. Zealand is survived by her daughter, Jean Zealand Brooks of Louisburg, two grandchildren, Rebecca and husband Michael Lee of Wake Forest, James A. Brooks and wife Alyson of Cary; and a great-granddaughter, Kylie Shae Brooks, as well as many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Louisburg Baptist Church, Organ Fund, P.O. Box 730, Louisburg, NC 27549 or Louisburg College, 501 N. Main St., Louisburg, NC 27549.

The family received friends 6 – 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Strickland Funeral Home, 103 W. Franklin St. Louisburg.
