NEWELL W. ASKEW
HENDERSON - Newell Winston Askew, 80, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008 at his home. Graveside services with military honors were conducted Thursday, Feb. 21, in the Askew family cemetery on Walter Grissom Road, with the Rev. Calvin Hedgepeth officiating.

Born in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Charles Matthew Askew and Willie Ball Askew. He was a retired truck driver and a member of Unity Baptist Church.

Surviving: his wife, Catherine Adcock Askew of the home; sons, Newell W. “Skeet” Askew (Wanda) and Matthew Joe Askew (Sherry), all of Kittrell, and David Van Askew (Lisa) of Henderson; five stepchildren; five grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Vance County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 914, Henderson, N C 27536.
