CLAUDIA R. SPEED (September 15, 1949 – April 18, 2008)
LOUISBURG – Claudia Ray Speed, 58, of Louisburg, died Friday at her home.

Claudia was preceded in death by her husband, David G. Murray and her father, Sen. James D. Speed. She attended Gold Sand High School and graduated from Peace High School and attended Peace College and East Carolina University. Claudia was an administrative assistant to the State Traffic Engineer of N.C. Department of Transportation.

Funeral service was 3 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Dr. Reggie Rushing officiating. The family received friends immediately following the service. Burial was private.

Claudia is survived by her mother, Martha Ray Speed of Louisburg; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mark and Camille Speed of Louisburg; Tom and Sara Speed; nephew, Davis Speed, all of Boone.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to J.C. Raulston Arboretum, Dept. of Horticultural Science, NC State University, Campus Box 7522, Raleigh, NC 27695-7522 or Franklin County Animal Shelter, 113 Market St., Louisburg, NC 27549.
