JOHN H. IHRIE, III (August 14, 1922 – May 2, 2008)
LOUISBURG – John Haughton Ihrie, III, 85, of Louisburg, died Friday morning at his home.

Mr. Ihrie was a son of the late John H. and Mable Clark Ihrie, Jr. He was a long standing member of Louisburg United Methodist Church and served in the Army as a First Lieutenant in World War II, in Japan and the Philippines. He was a retired Dairy Farmer and served on the board of FCX, Farm Bureau, Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation and First Citizens Bank. He was named Tar Heel of the Week and Farmer of the Year twice.

Funeral service was at 11 a.m. Monday at Louisburg United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Earl Dulaney officiating. Entombment followed in Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mr. Ihrie is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sarah O’Neal Ihrie; daughters and son-in-law, Jane and Ron Hayes of Canon, GA, and Edith Hilliard of Castalia; sons and daughters-in-law, Ralph Ihrie, Mike and Elaine Ihrie, all of Louisburg, William and Marlene Ihrie of Statesville; sisters and brother-in-law; Margaret Crawford of Gibsonville, Elizabeth Pearce of Zebulon, Hazel Horner of Raleigh, Ginny and Kenneth Maxwell of Pink Hill; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ed and Jerri Ihrie of Wilson, Pou and Joyce Ihrie of Timmonsville, SC; 11 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Epilepsy Foundation, 8301 Professional Place, Landover, MD 20785 or Eastern NC Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, 400 Oberlin Road, Suite 220, Raleigh, NC 27605.

The family received friends 4 – 5:30 p.m. Sunday At Strickland Funeral Home, 103 W. Franklin St., Louisburg.
