CARRIE H. “PERNELL” LECATES
DURHAM - Carrie Harris “Pernell” LeCates, 89, died Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at Hillcrest Convalescent Center. Funeral services were conducted Friday, May 23, at Temple Baptist Church in Durham, with the Rev. Norman B. Harris officiating. Burial followed in Maplewood Cemetery.

She was born in Franklin County, the daughter of the late Oliver Perry Harris and Carrie Daniel Harris. Prior to her retirement, she operated Carrie’s Beauty Shop for 48 years.

Surviving: a daughter, Patsy Pernell “Bost” Thrift (Jerry) of Ocean Isle Beach; a niece whom she raised as a daughter, Bette Jackson Varnell Cole (Ernie) of Franklin, Va.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Temple Baptist Church Building Fund, 4504 Sterling Drive, Durham, NC 27712 Arrangements by Howerton & Bryan Funeral Home.
