ERNEST H. SMITH, SR.
April 8, 1926 – January 17, 2009
LOUISBURG – Ernest Howard Smith Sr., 82, of Louisburg, died Saturday afternoon at his home.
Ernest was a son of the late Noel Benjamin and Mary Alice Goodson Smith. He was a member of Sandy Creek Baptist Church and a W.W. II Navy Veteran.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jon Dorsey officiating. Burial will follow in Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mr. Smith is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Marie H. Smith; daughters and son in-law, Joan and Ricky Batton of Bunn, Gloria Smith of Durham; sons and daughters-in-law, E.H. and Nell Smith, Ricky and Cindy Smith, all of Louisburg, Ken Smith of Butner; sisters, Hallie Tharrington of Louisburg, Elizabeth Roberts of Charlotte; brother, Milton Smith of Louisburg; grandchildren, Jennifer Smith, Jackie Burbank, Ricky Batton, Jr., Shea Neal, Laura Smith, Blair Smith and Christopher Smith; 8 great-grandchildren.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 8300 Health Park, Suite 10, Raleigh, NC 27615.

The family received friends 7 – 8:30 p.m. Monday at Strickland Funeral Home, 103 W. Franklin St., Louisburg.
