HAROLD W. WASHINGTON, SR.
CREEDMOOR - Harold Russell Washington, Sr., 83, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009.

Funeral services were Monday, Feb. 16, at the First Baptist Church in Creedmoor, with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Jenkins officiating.

He was born in Granville County to Mary Magdelene Veazey and Thomas Hubert Washington. He retired from the car business in 1980. During his years in Creedmoor he served as a Town commissioner.

He was a member of the Lions Club and Wake Forest Rotary Club. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.

Surviving: son, Harold Russell Washington, Jr. (Brenda) of Yougsville; daughters, Gayle Washington Adams (Jim) of Wake Forest and Mary Margaret Washington of Youngsville; stepson, William Branch Connelly (Maryellen) of Raleigh; step-daughter, Jane Connelly High (Danny) of Creedmoor; sister, Billie W. Garner of Durham; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Gooch Washington, and wife, Virgina Connelly Washington.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church/Washington Memorial, P.O. Box 38, Creedmoor, N.C. 27522.
