FRANKLINTON - William Albert Upchurch Sr., 71,  died Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Laurels Nursing Home at Forest Glenn in Garner. Funeral services were Tuesday, May 19, in the Eakes Funeral Chapel in Creedmoor, with the Rev. Lemar Wheeler officiating. Burial was in Carolina Memorial Gardens.

A native of Wake County, he was the son of the late Heber Glenn and Ella Hunter Upchurch. He was retired from Carolina Trailways and Falls Lake State Park.

Surviving: wife, Sara Lewter Upchurch of Franklinton; daughter, Susan Kannady (Brent) of Richmond, Va.; son, William Albert Upchurch Jr. (Amy) of Waxhaw; sisters, Nellie Goodwin, Ruby Council, Fay Winstead (Nicky), all of Apex, Frances Smith of Raleigh; brother, James Upchurch (Shirley) of Apex; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine Bowen and Elna King.
