TERENCE L. HONHART
August 21, 1946 – October 9, 2009


DURHAM - Terence Lee Honhart, age 63, of Durham, North Carolina, passed away on October 09, 2009, at Duke Hospice, Hock Family Pavilion, after a courageous 17-month battle with pancreatic cancer.

 He was born in Warren, Pennsylvania, on August 21, 1946. He was a graduate of Warren Area High School in 1964, earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Allegheny College in 1968, and a Masters Degree in Education in 1973 from Edinboro State University. He taught in the science department of Warren Area High School for 19 years. He most recently taught biology at Alamance Community College in Graham, N.C., after moving to Durham in 1987. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alan and Tillie Honhart. He is survived by his high school sweetheart wife, Connie Honhart, whom he married on June 22, 1968. He is also survived by his son, Mark, daughter-in-law, Nancy, and granddaughter, Jessica, of Kittrell, N.C.

He attended Hope Valley Baptist Church in Durham for 22 years, where he sang tenor in the choir and in the gospel quartet “Voices Of Hope”. He also sang for 3 years in the gospel quartet “Crossfire.” Music and teaching were his passions, as he touched the lives of many.

A celebration of his life was held at Hope Valley Baptist Church, in Durham, on October 12 at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral service was held at Strickland’s Funeral Home in Louisburg, N.C., on October 13 at 12:00 p.m.

The family received friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Burial immediately followed at Lancaster Memorial Garden in Louisburg.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to Duke Hospice, Hock Family Pavilion (4023 North Roxboro Road, Durham, N.C. 27704).
