JOSEPHINE H. HARRIS


LOUISBURG - Josephine House Harris, 98, died peacefully Saturday morning, Dec. 5, 2009, at Louisburg Nursing Center.

A lifelong resident of Louisburg, she was the daughter of Sarah Hines House and Walter L. House and the widow of William B. “Buck” Harris. She worked at Roses “Dime” Store in Louisburg from the day it opened until her retirement in 1976.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her four brothers, Douglas T. House of Louisburg, Allen House of New Jersey, Earnest Perry House of Beaufort and W.L. House.

She is survived by her sister, Margaret House Jones, and brother-in-law, Pelham T.  Jones  Sr. of Marshallberg;  numerous nephews and nieces:  P.T. Jones Jr. and wife Ginny of Marshallberg, Nancy Jones Piner and husband Greg of Oriental, Karen Jones Davis and husband Gary of Marshallberg, Kirk House and wife Judy of Winston-Salem, Jane-Waring House Wheeler and husband Howard of Louisburg, Walter L. House and wife Essie of Marshallberg, Elizabeth House of Honolulu, Hawaii, Walter Perry House and wife Ann of Beaufort, and Judy Levy of Morehead City; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as several great-great-nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors at Strickland Funeral Home in Louisburg on Wednesday, Dec. 9, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 1:30 in the Strickland Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Earl Dulaney. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
