LOUISBURG - Rachel Frances Bates Johnson, 78, died Thursday, April 29, 2010 at Britthaven Nursing Home in Louisburg. A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, May 2, at Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Kittrell. The Rev. Fred McGhee will preside.

She was born in Richmond, Va., to the late Samuel A. and Ellen Gibbs Bates. She was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Kittrell where she sang in the choir.

Surviving: son, John Thomas Karnes; sisters, Eunice B. Pulley of Kittrell and Ida Luck of Kearneysville, W. Va.; one grandson; 18 nieces and nephews.
