CHARLOTTE - Harriet Harris Hicks, 76, died Saturday, May 15, 2010. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 21, in Murfreesboro at the Murfreesboro Methodist Church.

Friends may visit from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, May 24, at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home, 504 E. Mason St., Franklinton. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. at Franklinton United Methodist Church in Franklinton, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery. A reception will follow the burial at the church education center.

She was born in Franklinton to the late Grover B. and Harriet Mohorn Harris. She graduated from Women’s College of the University of North Carolina, later continuing her education at the University of Richmond. She started her teaching career in 1955 in South Boston, Va. and completed her career as choral director at Thomas Dale High School in Chester, Va.

Surviving: husband, John Anderson Hicks of Murfreesboro; daughter, Harriet Elizabeth Baldwin of Mooresville; son, Graham H. Bruce III of Rockwell; stepson, Mathew A. Hicks of Corpus Christi, Tex.; brother, William Harris of Cedar Point; and eight grandchildren.
