JAMES WESLEY PAYNE SR.


FRANKLINTON - James Wesley Payne Sr., 85, died Thursday, July 15, 2010, at Rex Hospital. Funeral services will be Sunday, July 18, at 2:30 p.m. at Corinth Baptist Church with the Rev. Brent Farrar presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

He was born in Talladega County, Ala. to the late Nobie and Beadie Gardner Payne. He was a retired rural mail carrier and a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps., WWII. He was a charter member of the Franklinton Rescue Squad.

Surviving: wife, Dorothy E. Payne; son, James W. Payne Jr. (Linda) of Franklinton; daughter, Rhonda P. Bracknell (Chris) of Cripple Creek, Va.; brother, William D. “Sonny” Payne (Mary) or Cloumbiana, Ala.; sisters, Elaine Tidwell (Leon) of Oneonta, Ala., Dorsey Cates of Thorsby, Ala., Velera Payne of Oneonta, Ala.; one granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Avis, and brothers, W.F. Payne and Calbert Payne.

Friends may visit immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall and other times at the home of Jimmy and Linda Payne, 1200 N. Green Street in Franklinton.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Corinth Baptist Church, 4582 U.S. 401 Hwy. North, Louisburg, NC 27549 or to a church of one’s choice.
