JAMES R. KEARNEY


HENDERSON - James Robert Kearney, 84, of Kittrell, died Monday, Dec. 20, 2010 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday, Dec. 22) at Plank Chapel United Methodist Church, conducted by Dr. Carolyn Roy and the Rev. Carol Dean. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Born in Vance County, he was the son of the late Joseph Henry Kearney and Myrtle Dunn Kearney. He was a retired farmer and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II. He was a member of Plank Chapel United Methodist Church, where he formerly served as a choir member.

Surviving: wife, Roxie Beckham Kearney; daughters, Jo Lynne Kearney of Henderson, Jamie Kearney of Wake Forest, Margaret Piper of Henderson, Terry S. Cobb of Manson, Carolyn S. Robertson of Franklinton and Donna S. Kearney of Kittrell; son, C. Wayne Perry of Zebulon; sisters, Mary K. Satterwhite and Rosa K. Abbot, both of Henderson, Susie K. Beal of Kittrell and Margaret K. Collins of Henderson; brother, Alvin D. Kearney of Kittrell; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Danny Ray Perry, and two brothers, J.T. Kearney and David J. Kearney.

The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service.
