OSCAR G. “O.G.” SPELL JR.


ZEBULON - Oscar Glenn “O.G.” Spell Jr., 90, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2011. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today (Saturday, Jan. 8) at Wendell United Methodist Church, 129 N. Main St., Wendell, with the Rev. Ellen McCubbin officiating. Inurnment will be at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Zebulon, with Masonic rites by the Wendell Masonic Lodge and presentation of the U. S. Flag by the U.S. Army on behalf of a grateful nation.

He was born in Stantonsburg in Wilson County. His parents were the late Oscar Glenn Spell Sr. and Lillie Copeland Spell. He was a World War II veteran and was the president and owner of Spell Lumber Company, Inc.

Surviving: wife, Sara King Spell; son, Oscar Glenn Spell III (Gale) of Chapel Hill; daughter, Laura Spell Watkins of Wendell; sister, Hazel Spell Jenks of Raleigh; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Dr. John Harvey Spell; brother, Homer Copeland Spell; and sister, Virginia Spell Sprague.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wendell United Methodist Church Building Fund, P. O. Drawer D, Wendell, NC 27591.
