MARY P. HARRIS


FRANKLINTON - Mary Vivian Perry Harris, 94, died Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at Wake Medical Center. Funeral services were held Sunday, March 13, at First United Church of Christ, Franklinton, with the Rev. Ronald P. Waldon Jr., officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery, Franklinton.

She was born to the late Julius C. Perry Sr. and Susie Bell Perry in Franklinton. She was a member of First United Church of Christ, where she sang in the church choir, was a member of the Christian Harmony League and a member of the Missionary Department. In April 2005 she was honored as Mother of the Church.

She was preceded in death by he husband, James E. Harris Sr.; one sister, Lillian Yarborough; two brothers, Julius C. Perry and Cleo A. Perry; and a stepson, McDonald Joyner.

Surviving: children, James E. Harris Jr. (Linda) and Margaret L. Harris, both of Franklinton; two grandsons; three granddaughters; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
