AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Rev. Canon H. Neal Phelps of Augusta, Ga., originally of Franklin County, died Wednesday, March 7, 2012.

Devoting forty years as an ordained minister to the Episcopal Church, he served two years as Vicar of St. Matthews in Fitzgerald, Ga., followed by 26 years as Rector of St. Augustine’s in Augusta, continuing service in 2003 as Canon to the Bishop in Savannah until retirement.

Surviving: wife, Chris; daughter, Allyson Stanland (Fred); sister, Jean Gordon (Bob) of Durham; brother, Charles Phelps (Cindy) of Louisburg; two grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held at St. Augustine’s on March 11. Memorials may be made to St. Augustine’s or a blood donation in Neal’s memory.
