RUTH S. HINTON


ZEBULON - Ruth Smith Hinton, 101, of the Emit Community died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, at Watkins Chapel Baptist Church, with visitation one hour prior to the service in the fellowship hall. Entombment will follow in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Zebulon.

She was born in Johnston County, daughter of the late Doc Joseph Smith and Viola Winston Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Waylon Hinton; sisters, Lucille Bradshaw, Neva Hocutt, Prentice Murphy and Lydia Raines; and one grandson.

She was the oldest living member of Watkins Chapel Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school.

Surviving: children, Mary Ruth Avery (R.A.) of Selma, Dorothy Powell of Newport News, Va., Joy Rae Parrish (Milton) of Raleigh, Franceline Price (Robert), Othell Price (Larry) and Dale Driver (Randy), all of Wendell; sister, Edna Bradshaw of Zebulon; brother, D.J. Smith Jr. of Durham; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
