JEWEL MAE D. HARRIS


ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Jewel Mae Dennis Harris died Thursday, January 11, 2007 at her home in St. Augustine, Florida. She was born in Franklin County on June 8, 1922, the daughter of Frank and Menta Dennis, who predeceased her.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Woodrow Wilson Harris; a daughter, Patricia Harris Morse, two sons, Woodrow Wilson Harris, Jr., and wife, Loraine of Columbia, South Carolina, and Frank Dennis Harris of Melbourne Beach, Florida; three grandchildren, Bryan Morse and wife, Victoria of Tampa, Florida, Elizabeth Harris Turner and husband, Michael of Fort Mill, South Carolina, and Jay Harris of Austin, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Wilson Dennis Morse, Ansley and Emerson Turner; and a sister, Rose Dennis Read of Louisburg.

Jewel grew up in Franklin County, graduating from Mills High School, and attended Louisburg College before her marriage in 1942. After World War II, she and her husband moved to Norfolk, Virginia, where they lived and raised their family before retiring and moving to Franklin County in 1977. They later moved to St. Augustine, Florida to be near their family. A memorial service will be held in Louisburg at a later time.
