CEDAR ROCK TOWNSHIP – Pattie Brooks, 44, (nee’ Patricia Marie Maynard), died suddenly Tuesday evening, Jan. 15, at Franklin Regional Medical Center, Louisburg. She was a wife, mother, sister, daughter, friend, and Pat-Pat to her nieces and nephews, whom she adored. The love and pride of her life was as wife to Jeff, and mother to Jack, 12, Joseph, 10, and Jesse, 6.

Born in Portsmouth (Va.) Naval Hospital to the late Eleanor Hope Newell Maynard and Capt.  Donald James Maynard, USN-RET, she was named for her great-Aunt Pat and Aunt Marie, and thought every little girl had a china and silver pattern, as she inherited hers at age 5. As the descendant of two North Carolina governors, Richard Caswell and David L. Swain, Pattie used to jokingly tell her friends, “You may think I’m a nobody, but I really am a somebody.” She attended elementary school in Vienna, Va., and Cary, NC, before graduating high school and junior college from Saint Mary’s in Raleigh.  She was a cosmetologist with Shear Elegance, Cary, for many years, then a volunteer at CrossCreek Charter, when her boys began school.

In addition to her husband, Jeff, and her sons Jack, Joseph and Jesse, she is survived by her father Don (Kay) of Cary; her sisters Suzy Barile (John) of Harmony and Ellie Maynard (Dicki Parrish) of Lake Gaston, Va., and sister-in-law Bonnie Hutchinson of Raleigh; brothers Donnie (Misty) and Bobby (Sarah’Lee) of Ehrhardt, SC, and Tommy (Angie) of Knightdale; nieces, Jen Brett of Santa Monica, Calif., Sydney Maynard of Raleigh, and Annie Parrish of Lake Gaston, Va.; nephews, Joey Barbour of Costa Rica; Bryson Parrish of Lake Gaston, Va., Ben and Alex Maynard of Knightdale, and Adam and William Brooks of Clayton. She was predeceased by her mother, with whom she enjoyed years of clowning as “Pat-Pat and Granny Paintbrush,” and a sister-in-law, Karen.

A memorial service was held at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18 at White Level Baptist Church, 2400 White Level Rd., (White Level community), Louisburg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a special children’s educational deposit account at any State Employees Credit Union branch for the benefit of “Jack, Joseph & Jesse Brooks,” or to CrossCreek Charter School, 306 Sandalwood Ave., Louisburg, NC 27549.

Though we wonder, “How can you mend a broken heart?” we will remember always
“longer than … I’ll be in love with you.”
