RALEIGH - William “Bill” Harton Matthews, 82, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007 at his daughter’s residence in Reidsville. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, Jan. 17) at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Saint Mary’s Street. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

He was a member of the Salvation Army Church for many years. Mr. Matthews was preceded in death by his two wives, Thera B. Matthews and Lola Lamm Matthews.

Surviving: his children, Cassandra Alexander of Reidsville, Tracee Lusky of Louisburg, Brenda Bridges and Tonya Jackson, both of Raleigh, Connie Furman of St. Albans, Vt., Pamela Lane of Wendell, Tammy Moye of Davidson, Carol Maggs of Columbus, Ohio, Freddie Matthews of California and Guy Matthews of Clayton; sister, Christine Wentz of Charlotte; 23 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service.
