DURHAM - Fay High Powell, 64, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007 at Duke Hospice Inpatient Facility. Funeral services were conducted Friday, Jan. 19, at Westwood Baptist Church, with Dr. Harry Byrd and the Rev. Frances Sykes officiating. Burial and committal were at Rocky Mount Memorial Park in Rocky Mount, with Dr. Chet Raines and Dr. Harry Byrd officiating.

She was born in Edgecombe County, the daughter of John W. High Sr. and the late Pattie Winters High. Mrs. Powell was an elementary school teacher. More recently she worked with Home Instead Senior Care as a caregiver and at Duke Memorial Parents Morning Out as a teacher.

Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Smith.

Surviving, in addition to her father: husband, Dan A. Powell; son, John Powell (Angela) of Franklinton; sister, Becky High-Shipp (Frank) of Durham; brother, Johnny High (Brenda) of Rocky Mount; and two grandchildren.
