JUDGE ARLIE CARDWELL


ROPER — Judge Arlie Cardwell, 90, of Roper, NC, formerly of Louisburg, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, at Corinth Baptist Church, 4582 US Highway 401 North, Louisburg. The Rev. Matthew Bowden will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Born Jan. 28, 1923 in Wilkes County, NC, he was a son of the late Ethel Cardwell McGuire.

A World War II veteran of the United States Army, he served in the Anti-Aircraft Division. He also owned and operated his own logging and trucking business.

Surviving: son, Garry Cardwell (Lynne) of Roper; sisters, Pansy Hunt of Louisburg and Florina Edwards (Woodrow) of Lexington; brothers, Ray Cardwell (Fay) of Louisburg, Rufus McGuire (Mildred) of Mulberry, Bill McGuire (Edna) of Millers Creek, and J. C. McGuire (Joan) of Wilkesboro; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Watkins Cardwell; a daughter, Hilda Cardwell; a sister, Stella Mae Goforth; two brothers, Wade McGuire and Tom McGuire; and a great-granddaughter.

The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m., one hour prior to the service, at the church.
